Those places sound wonderful, especially The Mix, it's too bad they closed. :-/ The creme brulee French toast with drunken blueberries sounds incredible!
Surprisingly, a fair number of the restaurants I remember as a kid are not only still around, some of them have expanded. If you're ever in Southern California and want a pastrami dip sandwich that's to die for, go to one of the locations of The Hat. Just be aware that one pastrami sandwich is enough to fill up two hungry adults or one bottomless pit teenager having a growth spurt.
